Who We Are

Ashiyana works with children and youth at risk from the age of 12-25 in closed Child Care Institutions.

We believe that when enabling and supportive ecosystems are built, children who are victims of their circumstances can transform and break the cycle of poverty and crime and reintegrate as contributing members of society.

Our mission is to create Child Care Institutions as places of transformation.
In institutions, through mental health services, restorative circles, art-based interventions, and participatory processes, we create a safe space and a support system for the Children in Conflict with the Law(CCL) as well as Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) who are orphaned, abandoned, neglected or come from broken families to heal and transform their lives.

The volunteer-based engagement activities bridge the gap between the inside and the outside world and expose children to positive role models in society creating an ecosystem that supports the rehabilitation and behavior change of the children and enables them to break the cycle of poverty and crime.

Ashiyana has also been a pioneer in the space of Restorative Justice and has been recognized for various initiatives. Annually, Ashiyana works with approximately 2500 children and is has touched families of 17,000 to date.

Raising Funds For

Join our TMM 2024 campaign and support Sahej Foundation - Ashiyana's mission to make a profound impact on the lives of vulnerable children in 3 Child Care Institutions (CCIs) in Mumbai.
Over the past decade, our experience working within these institutions has highlighted the inherent trauma associated with a child's entry into such settings. Many of these children already grapple with emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, and hidden mental health conditions. They have endured a history of trauma, poverty, violence, and societal oppression, which only intensifies within the institutional environment, marked by separation from parents, fear, loss of dignity, hopelessness, power imbalances, and social isolation.
Mental health interventions with these children are lengthy processes and need to begin within the institutions to achieve the larger goal of rehabilitating children within society.
The Juvenile Justice Act emphasizes the importance of counseling, yet CCIs often lack the resources and budgets for counselors. Ashiyana aims to not only fulfill this gap in the institution but also build the socio-emotional skills of the children, create reflective spaces, introduce rituals, and restorative circles for healing, and inculcate a spirit of accountability, self-reliance, and non-violence.

Through this initiative, 1,500+ children and parents will receive crucial mental health and psychosocial support. We will also train 50 CCI staff in restorative and trauma-informed practices, creating safe and transformative spaces within these institutions. The estimated annual cost per child is ₹3,500.
Join us in making institutions places of healing and transformation, enabling these children to thrive. Support our TMM 2024 campaign today
