Who We Are

Established as a Charitable Trust on 27 November, 1969, WWF India set out with the aim of reducing the degradation of Earth’s natural environment and building a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. In 1987, the organization changed it's name from the World Wildlife Fund to World Wide Fund for Nature India. With five decades of extensive work in the sector, WWF India today is one of the leading conservation organizations in the country. WWF India is a science-based organization which addresses issues such as the conservation of species and its habitats, climate change, water and environmental education, among many others. Over the years, its perspective has broadened to reflect a more holistic understanding of the various conservation issues facing the country and seeks to proactively encourage environmental conservation by working with different stakeholders- Governments, NGOs, schools and colleges, corporates, students and other individuals. Mission Statement: To stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by: Conserving the world's biological diversity; Ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable; Promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.

Raising Funds For

Since inception, education has been the core aspect of WWF-India's conservation efforts. WWF-India’s education work aims to inform and empower the children, youth and citizens of India to act and create impact for a sustainable planet. With a focus on building environmental awareness and knowledge, developing requisite capacity and skills, and enabling action for conservation, WWF-India’s education programmes engage children and young adults in activities guided by the Sustainable Development Goals and a scientific understanding of various environmental phenomena. In 2016, the Ek Prithvi programme was launched in Ladakh. This is a formal school education programme that aims to motivate students, teachers, and entire schools towards sustainability and conservation leadership through a whole school approach. By 2019, the Ek Prithvi programme reached more than 130,000 students and 500 teachers in 11 states. In the year 2020, Ek Prithvi was adapted to continue imparting key skills and knowledge through its pan-India digital movement for students, called ‘One Earth One Home’ (or OEOH) in 10 languages that foster green habits, encourage students to adopt sustainable ways of living, and encourage their families to make a green switch in their household practices. Millions of students in 17 States and UTs accessed OEOH resources and participated in greening activities. In the light of the National Education Policy 2020, the Ek Prithvi programme has evolved to create Model Green Schools with a deeper engagement fostering long-term sustainable practices through E-STEM learning and application in the school ecosystem. Launched in 2019, Ek Prithvi Assam has reached out to 10 schools empowering more than 110 teachers and 2750 students. A strong partnership with the Government of Assam and the Samagra Shiksha Assam with WWF-India has paved the way for expanding the work to 3219 schools in the state.YOUR support is integral in helping us to lead the way in Assam for a green way forward. All YOUR contributions will help us build a green brigade for a better planet!
