The marginalised producers are the most critical part of the production and consumption systems, but they get only 40%-60% of the end consumer prices for products. They have to sell their produce as primary produce without any value addition; thus, they realise much lower economic returns. The Producer Collectives of the farmers provide a platform for aggregation, value addition, and marketing to address this problem. In one of the present initiatives, ALF is supporting the businesses of three producer companies (PCs) – one in the tribal-dominated Kotturu region of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh and other two in rainfed areas – Dharmagarh and Loisingha of Kalahandi and Balangir districts respectively in Western Odisha. The members of these PCs engage in different commodities – Hillbroom, Paddy, Paddy Seeds, Pulses, Maize and Turmeric. The objective of the current fundraiser is to support the women farmers with timely provision of quality inputs and commodity procurement services, thus ensuring improved income realisation for them;
i. Provision of quality inputs like seeds, fertilisers, and bio-pesticides to 300 farmers worth Rs 3,000/- on average.
ii. Commodity procurement and marketing support for 150 farmers worth Rs 15,000/- on average.
The support will ensure sustainable incomes for producers in rural and tribal areas.
