Diabetes Education and Testing

68% of India's labour employment comprises the unorganised sector, which forms the bulk of the urban poor. Workers engaged in this urban informal sector form the bulk of the urban poor and they work in small and privately owned enterprises such as; leather work, weaving, artisans, saw mills, preparation of food items for wholesale, recycling units, rag pickers, handicraft artisans, handloom weavers etc. The labor laws and policies have minimal control over these types of industries. They face numerous health hazards, but have little or no access to healthcare facilities.

Today, the UWM team sensitized 120+ unorganized sector workers on key aspects related to Diabetes, and carried out testing and screening of Diabetes. Those found with high blood glucose level will be referred to the nearest public health medical facility for in depth medical investigation. Counselling and treatment compliance support will be provided to those found with Diabetes.
