United Way Mumbai has announced changes at the Governing Board and Organisational level.

The current CEO Jayanti Shukla will be transitioning to Advisor to the Governing Board of Trustees of United Way Mumbai after 12 years at the helm, effective March 31st 2021. Her new position reflects the success of her career as one of the development sector's most respected CEOs. Her experience of the development sector and understanding of the organisation she has led will be tremendous assets to the Board. During her career with United Way Mumbai, Jayanti Shukla has been instrumental in helping the organisation initiate, grow and transform its programmes and flagship projects to ensure social impact in communities. Under her leadership, United Way Mumbai grew from a small team of 15 to a vibrant team of 60 development sector specialists, each with their areas of expertise. She has ensured that United Way Mumbai established itself as an organisation with a deep understanding of the development sector. As United Way Mumbai's CEO, Jayanti has formed lasting relationships with our most important stakeholders, including corporate partners, NGO partners from the sector, and government and civic agencies.

While Jayanti steps down from her day-to-day management as the CEO of United Way Mumbai and moves on to her new position as an advisor to the board, she will be handing over charge of the organisation to George J Aikara, former COO at United Way Mumbai, who will now take on the role of CEO from the 1st of April 2021.

George Aikara has contributed extensively in building United Way Mumbai’s capacities and work as the COO for the past 10 years. His team-building skills, knowledge of the development sector and drive towards strengthening philanthropy to achieve intelligent, effective social impact, make him an ideal successor as CEO. George is also a United Way Worldwide global fellow.

Also, as per the rotational policy for United Way Mumbai's Board of Trustees, the position of Chairman held by Mr. Homi Khusrokhan (Sr. Advisor, Private Equity, Tata Capital Ltd.)  has been handed over to Mr. Rohit Adya (Founder & CMD of Datamodo Pvt. Ltd). The Vice-Chairman is now Mr. Pradeep Poddar (Former MD and CEO, Mount Everest Mineral Water Ltd.) and the Treasurer and Secretary is Ms. Karuna Bhatia (Head of Sustainability India & SA, Standard Chartered Bank). Furthermore, we have four new members joining our Board – Mr. Arun Kumar Malhotra (Auto Industry Expert/Visiting Faculty / Former MD Nissan India), Mr. Raman Madhok (Managing Director, Kahani Designworks Pvt. Ltd.), Mr Surojit Shome (CEO, DBS Bank) and Ms Gayatri Yadav (Chief Marketing Officer, Sequoia Capital).

With these changes in place, United Way Mumbai aims to achieve the most effective, efficient and sustainable impact possible and further consolidate United Way Mumbai’s place as a leader in the social sector.
