I am Amita, from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. I have been associated with urja for the past 7 years when I was seeking support to stand on my own feet and fulfil my dreams. Urja works to facilitate safe spaces and rehabilitation support for homeless young women who face violence within their families, and are forced to leave their homes for safety and protection. Urja has transformed the lives of many young women, like me, and motivated us to keep going despite the adversities . During the lockdown, when Urja team couldn't visit our Dadar shelter due to travel restrictions, I stepped up to help Urja out in taking care of our shelter and the Urja women. I have always received great support, love, and inspiration from my peers and team at Urja, and to know that there are people who will stand by women like myself during hard times is a great comfort!
