Raising Funds For

URJA Trust strives toward facilitating access to equal opportunities, inclusion, and a life with safety and dignity for homeless young women and LBTQ+ youths between the ages of 18-30.
Young women and LBTQ+ youths are many times forced to leave their homes due to violence within families, lack of opportunities, or abandonment by families, which renders them homeless, impacting their physical, emotional, and material wellbeing.

Your donation can help young women come out of their situations of homelessness, distress, and trauma, and move towards sustainable and holistic rehabilitation and dignified life.
The funds collected through donations for Tata Mumbai Marathon will go towards facilitating shelter space for these young women where they can protect themselves from immediate violence, have a healing and enabling environment so that they can work upon their physical, and psychosocial wellbeing, and access civil, legal and developmental rights and opportunities.
We appeal to you to join us with your generous support and resources! You can help resilient young women and LBTQ+ youths to come out of homelessness and fulfill their dreams and aspirations.
Run to support homeless young women and LBTQ+ youths!

Project NameSafe Spaces and Holistic Rehabilitation
Amount Utilized (INR)118111
Project DescriptionThe funds received from TMM 2023 have been utilized in facilitating safe and inclusive shelter spaces for homeless young women and LBT youth arriving in Mumbai City. We have facilitated holistic wellbeing and care for these survivors of gender-based violence, through healthcare, nutritional support, trauma-informed counseling, and legal guidance. Our safe spaces provide young survivors with knowledge of their rights, resources, and opportunities, which will enable them to live with economic independence and dignity.

Beneficiary DescriptionURJA works with homeless young women and trans persons from marginalised sexual orientation, gender identity, caste, religion in the age group of 18-35 years, who at times are accompanied with their children. “Trans” covers a diversity of gender identities and forms of gender expressions, including transfeminine, transmasculine, genderqueer, gender non-binary, and gender non-conforming people, amongst other identities. We walk along in the journeys of homeless young women who are survivors of systemic oppression, domestic violence, gender and sexual violence, communal violence and sexual violence, and have no access to any resources or government social security benefits as citizens of the country. The homeless young women come to Mumbai from across the country, mostly from rural places, however with no real support from civil society or the system, since they are deemed adults, they land on the streets homeless.
ImpactOver the 10 years that Urja has been operating, we have reached out to 5000+ young survivors of gender-based violence, facilitating access to safety, shelter, and holistic rehabilitation support. Our holistic interventions for sustainable rehabilitation have resulted in young survivors living independently, having found suitable and dignified employment, while many have chosen to pursue education or their professional aspirations. Social and economic independence has resulted in their access to civil entitlements and equal citizenship rights while experiencing emotional and social security. Thus young survivors of violence are enabled to come out of homelessness, protected from further physical, emotional, and sexual violence, are integrated into a safe environment, and can contribute to the larger economy of the nation.
