Hi, I’m Anoushka Taparia, In India, Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is an epidemic. According to the widely cited study by Ministry of Women and Child Development, 53% of children in India experience one or more forms of sexual abuse before they turn 18 years old. Professionals working against the issue vouch for this figure being even higher. Yet, there is a limited understanding among adults about the gravity of the issue and effective ways of preventing and sensitively responding to it. HEAL founded by Rahul Bose stands for Help Eradicate Abuse through Learning and works to eliminate sexual abuse of children. Their mission is to prevent sexual abuse of children through the tool of education with an aim to enable all involved to understand, recognise, learn preventive methods and respond sensitively to child sexual abuse. I am running the Mumbai Marathon (7 km) in 2019 to help raising money for HEAL and the cause to help eliminate sexual abuse. Your contribution would be immensely helpful and make a big difference. The funds will be used towards helping schools train parents, teachers and administrative staff to understand, acknowledge, identify and respond to CSA which will be followed by working with children on personal safety education. In addition to this, the funds will enable us to provide therapeutic and psycho-social support to survivors of child sexual abuse and their caretakers.
