This year, I am running for HEAL, that is Help Eradicate Abuse through Learning. This organisation, as you might have gathered from its name, aims to eradicate child sexual abuse. This is such a powerful cause to run for, as over 53% of children in India face sexual abuse. Over 53%! That statistic alone is cause enough for concern in the mindset of the people of our country. Imagine the affect of this sexual abuse on the psyche of these children. How much mental, emotional and physical torture must they be going through? HEAL therefore, works on providing counselling sessions and workshops for victims of abuse. Counselling is,I believe, a powerful tool, that will only benefit us. Rescuing these children, of course is extremely important as well. But what about after? Yes, they are out of this situation, but the memories and the horrors will stay with them forever, and might even fester, and turn into something much more grave. Counselling will help them gain closure, and be able to move on with their lives. These children might even possibly move ahead and help other children in the future.The workshops will help raise awareness of child sexual abuse,and may even help some children report sexual abuse being committed against them. Imagine this, it costs a mere Rs.1500 to conduct one workshop. with Rs.50,000, how many children's lives can become better?The power of words is unmatched, and I hope my words today have motivated you to empower the lives of these amazing children.
