Dedicated to change for childhood cancer in India, CanKids, India's only not for profit organisation, supporting the cause of kids afflicted with cancer, takes a shot at all aspects to empower best benchmarks of treatment, care and support services for children fighting cancer. Cankids was set up in January 2004 in Delhi under the umbrella of Indian Cancer Society and, in June 2012, registered as a separate National Society. It is a member of CCI (Childhood Cancer International formerly known as ICCCPO) , which is affiliated to SIOP (International Society of Pediatric Oncology). Being a part of this organisation will give me the opportunity to work closely with the children who are fighting against all odds. Bringing some amount of hope and encouragement to them can go a long way to make them feel that they are not alone in their battle. Mental support plays a vital role in the eventual well-being of a cancer patient. I have also learnt that cancer does not mean that there is no future. The work of this organisation is doubly important as it supports children afflicted with cancer- children who may not have the mental strength and maturity to undertake this journey by themselves. These kids have not got the opportunity to experience the wonderful things life has to offer but if I am able to have a positive impact on even one child’s life that would give them this chance I will consider myself the luckiest person.
