Nandbagh is a biggest slum in Baanganga area, yet lacking badly in very basic amenities. Children faces many challenges here in every season i.e. water logged lanes during monsoon, lack of playing area for children, water scarcity, unpaved & broken streets and no drainage in many lanes
Since last three-four months we have our lane paved in our colony as a result of continued efforts of our basti’s women groups with UHRC’s support and guidance.
I enjoy being a member of Muskaan Baal Samooh (children and youth group) under UHRC’s program. I am able to read interesting books through mobile library. UHRC activities help us children and youth improve knowledge, sharpen our skills and confidence in performing in speaking before an external audience. We also get to see different parts of Indore city.
With guidance from UHRC children-youth groups have been formed each with a girl and a boy leader. UHRC organizes activities such as hand-washing demonstration; awareness Rally, sports day, group-song, “nukkad-natak” (street-plays) and poetry recitation on themes such as "girls are equal contributors to society" and dance. These enhance confidence, self-expression. By thinking ourselves about different aspects of organizing activities we acquire team-skills and develop leadership.
