I am supporting 'Goonj' at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2023 and I believe we can together help them achieve their mission.
ABOUT: With over 2 decades of presence, Goonj aims to build an equitable relationship of strength, sustenance, and dignity between the cities and villages, using under-utilized material as a tool to trigger development. They use urban surplus material to address basic but neglected issues of the financially and materially poor. Some of their initiatives are
1)SCHOOL TO SCHOOL: This initiative addresses the educational needs of thousands of remote & resource starved village schools by channelizing under-utilized material of city’s schools
2)RAHAT: Rahat is an active, reliable and time-tested network of stakeholders in both rural & urban India ensuring timely response for generating need-based disaster relief & rehabilitation efforts.
3)GREEN BY GOONJ: ‘Green by Goonj’ is built around reusing and up-cycling shreds of materials. A range of over 100 different products like purses, fancy bags, file folder, mats are made out of torn jeans, obsolete audio tapes, one side used paper
4)CLOTH FOR WORK: An initiative in which Goonj works with communities for rural development activities where they built bamboo bridges, developed irrigation canals and drainage systems, developed water harvesting systems to cleaning up water bodies. All these works are done by making people understand their own community power and giving old usable old material as a reward.
