This cause is very close to my heart because my own brother suffers from Dravet’s Syndrome. He is 21 now. My parents had to move from Nepal to India, for his treatment. Most people in Nepal did not even know what epilepsy was at that time. My brother can’t speak like most of us do or walk like most of us do. He needs help with some of the most basic day to day activities. Obviously, that doesn’t make him a lesser human. Epilepsy can be debilitating. It can cripple you. My brother’s illness taught me what uprooting your life literally means. To see my parents selflessly devote and give as much as they could and not expect anything in return has been one of the most life changing and defining lesson of my life because thats what life is about, you gotta do what you gotta do and the rest will fall in place.
This lockdown and pandemic made me realize how privileged i have been, or how privileged my brother is by god’s grace. To afford speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical rehabilitation. It made me realize how we take very small things in life for granted. There are kids out there from very humble backgrounds who cant afford a basic medication like valproate or phenytoin perhaps, let alone rehabilitation. I want them to have that chance at a better quality of life.
My brother might be physically sick but emotionally i know he is the most large hearted person alive, he has a lot of love to give. My parents taught us to be better humans. So i hope you support this cause
