Concern India Foundation's approach is to ‘help people help themselves’ by making the disadvantaged self-reliant and enabling them to lead a life of dignity. This philosophy lays the foundation for their programmes so that they have the buy-in of the entire community and are hence sustainable and effective.
Every child – regardless of differing backgrounds and abilities – has the right to a holistic education, of which sports is an intrinsic part. All children benefit from exercise, energy release, and the pure enjoyment of participating in sports. This includes children with special needs, who gain considerable confidence from sports activities. To this end, Concern India Foundation introduced Sports Day for the Differently abled, an event that has become one of the hallmarks of the activity calendar for many NGOs. The sports day is organised in Mumbai and Pune with the help of Special Olympics Bharat as the technical partner. Children from various NGOs participate in a variety of races and activities in a fun-filled day that is special for not only the children but for all the volunteers and guests who are present.
