OSCAR (Organisation for Social Change, Awareness, and Responsibility) Foundation's mission particularly appealed to me as it aims to address the importance of education through the game of football. They work with children from disadvantaged backgrounds like child labourers, kids exposed to substance abuse, child brides, differently-abled children and children who are highly likely to drop out of school. They strive to instil in the children, a love for school through football. With a slogan like "Education with a kick" and a primary policy "No school, No football", I was hooked right away as I firmly believe no childhood should be robbed of education or play.
During the year of 2018-2019:
- 3,417 children have benefitted out of which 1,187 are girls.
- 31 communities in Mumbai were reached out to
- 96% of OSCAR kids attend school regularly
A testimony of the impact that OSCAR has had is the winning of the DANA cup trophy in Denmark by the Under 16 girls football team from the slums of Mumbai on 26th July 2019. The team comprising of players from Ambedkar Nagar slums in Mumbai and rural Jarkhand beat formidable teams of Norwegian girls. Their love for football saved them from early marriage and helped them remain in school.
I am inspired by their story and hope you will be too. So I humbly request you to open your hearts and help me reach my target and also spread the word. I am grateful for whatever you give, no amount is too small. Thank you!
