Jeevdan Residential Special School was started on 17th July, 2000, the first school and rehabilitation Centre for the intellectually disabled children in Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra. Most of them stay in the campus where as a few are day scholars. Jeevdan special school has 55 students in the academic year 2017-2018. Out of them 48 stay in the attached hostel building. Some of them are coupled with other disabilities like autism, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, visual impairment and learning disability. School timing is from 10.30 a.m. to 04.30 p.m. Students are provided with uniform, text books and note books. Students are grouped according to age, I.Q., learning and adapting capacities. Class teachers plan out Individual Education Program (I.E.P.) for every child in which child’s current level is assessed and short term and long term goals are determined. Marathi alphabets, numbers, colors, good habits, basic concepts, good manners, reading and writing and general knowledge are taught. Special services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, etc are given to the needy on prescribed days and time. The Vocational Training Center was started in August 2015 to vocationally and economically rehabilitate children who pass out of the special school after completion 18 years. At preliminary level they are introduced to make greeting cards, materials related to festivals, paper bags, incense sticks, foot mats, home making, cooking, etc.
