How many kids have you seen begging around the traffic signal and railway station everyday? How many children have you seen rag picking around the railway tracks as you travel to your college/ workplace? So many young kids sell books but sadly do not have the privilege to school. School should not be a privilege, education should not be a luxury that is accessible just to a lucky few. EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION. This is exactly what Aseema believes in. Since its inception in 1997, Aseema has been striving to provide high quality, relevant education to Mumbai’s most neglected children – children living on the streets, or in slums, in inhuman conditions. Aseema also works with the tribal children of Igatpuri, and have set up an Education Centre for Tribal Children in Awalkheda. They have recruited local people as teachers and have introduced them to Aseema’s teaching approach which is based on the belief that all children have an innate love for learning which grows and flourishes when there is a bonding between the teacher and the child. It also lays a lot of emphasis on the holistic development of the child rather than only academic achievement. Aseema has touched a number of young children and has encouraged young minds to dream big. It still has a long road ahead of it.
