We are collectively living through the most harrowing crisis of our lifetime, and as it began to unfold, the deafblind children and their families that Sense India works with are stuggling as well they have lost their livelihoods. The parents of deafblind children are worried to provide to their children who need specialised care round the year. This initiative is to provide basic food and necessary items for identified families of deafblind children to ease the burden on them. Deaf blindness is one of the most unique and isolating disability that I’ve come across where a person has both hearing and visual impairment. Individuals with deaf blindness face difficulty in communicating with the world and owing to this face severe neglect and discrimination. In our country there are an estimated 5,00,000 individuals with deaf blindness and less than 10% receive any form of support. Sense International India is the only national organisation working for better care, education and livelihoods for children and adults with deaf blindness. We are physically unable to be on the ground however through such organisation we can be Covid- Warriors. This is the least possible.
