Beneficiary DescriptionThe project supported a total of 342 individuals from forest-fringe communities across Wayanad, Kannur, and Palakkad districts of Kerala who were affected by human–wildlife conflict. Of these, 87 were women and 255 were men. The beneficiaries were primarily small and marginal farmers, cattle owners, and daily-wage earners. Age-wise, 12 beneficiaries were between 20–30 years, 25 between 31–40, 71 between 41–50, 89 between 51–60, 87 between 61–70, 46 between 71–80, and 9 were above 80 years of age. The assistance enabled them to file ex-gratia compensation claims for crop damage, livestock loss, and property destruction caused by human–wildlife conflict.
ImpactThrough Wild Seve, we have assisted over 300 beneficiaries affected by human–wildlife conflict (HWC) in filing about 350 applications for ex-gratia compensation. This ensures timely intervention, reduces the risk of retaliatory action against wildlife, and provides much-needed support to affected communities.
