NeevJivan Foundation is an NGO working with a focus on skill development and vocational training with tribal women in rural Maharashtra. It is our endeavour to create alternate sources of income and opportunities of sustainable livelihood for them in their villages so that they do not have to migrate to the cities in search of better opportunities.

In the long run, it is our goal to make her self-reliant & financially independent so that she can contribute to the finances of her family which can help in stopping the migration of her family members.

We have developed a robust operating model to create a vocation in every household in a village so that there is an alternate source of income in every family.

1. Technical training on vocation of choice (20+ vocations)
2. Module on Entrepreneurship Skills covering business concepts through experiential learning.
3. Facilitate access to funds through government schemes, corporates (CSR), etc
4. Set up micro business units - buy machines, raw materials, set up shopfloor, packaging, branding, regulatory compliances, etc
5. Support for 10-12 months to stabilise operations through market linkages

Today, we have 93 micro businesses being run by 900+ tribal women in Jawhar, Dahanu and Vikramgad talukas in the Palghar district and rural areas of Nashik district.

Appeal

Sundari has 3 children and aging in-laws staying at her home in Modgaon village. She aspires for a pucca house of her own, wants her children to be educated and lead a healthy life. But the earning from agriculture which is their primary source of income is not enough to make this happen. Hence, for almost 8 months in a year, she leaves her family behind and migrates to Silvassa and work as unskilled labourer at a brick making unit.

This is the story of thousands of tribals living in Jawhar and Dahanu talukas in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. Due to scarcity of water they run one crop cycle, which results in an annual income of approximately Rs. 60,000/- (MHI Rs. 5,000/-). This is hardly enough to meet the basic needs of the family and hence the people migrate to the cities in search of alternate income.

We plan to utilise your contribution to support women like Sundari by setting up micro businesses (e.g. Poultry farm, Bee keeping, Nursery, Patrawali) for them in their villages so that they can become self-reliant and do not have to migrate to the cities in the long run.
