Joy Fernandes, S.J.
Director, Reach Education Action Programme (REAP)

I am Joy Fernandes, a Jesuit priest and social worker dedicated to education and empowerment of children and youth from underprivileged communities. As Director of REAP, based in Kalwa, Thane, I have been leading initiatives that provide foundational learning, STEM education, skill development, and mentoring to thousands of children each year.

This is my third consecutive year running the Tata Mumbai Marathon as a fundraiser. Each stride I take is for the dreams of children who deserve quality education and a brighter future. Through your support, we can transform small steps into big opportunities – helping children stay in school, access digital learning, and gain life-changing skills.

Appeal

At REAP, we believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream. For over two decades, we have been working with children and youth from underprivileged communities in Kalwa and surrounding areas, offering education, skill development, and holistic support.

Impact So Far:

500+ preschoolers in slum communities given a strong foundation each year

1,000+ school-going children receive supplementary education and STEM training

200+ young women trained in vocational skills such as hospitality and beauty trades

Thousands of families empowered through awareness, life skills, and community engagement

The Vision Ahead:
REAP is expanding its impact through STEM Udaan – setting up STEM labs, mobile science interventions, and career readiness programs for students across Thane and Mumbai. We aim to reach 10,000 children annually with innovative, hands-on learning and critical life skills.

How You Can Contribute:

Rs. 2,500: Support supplementary education for one child

Rs. 15,000: Sponsor early childhood education for one student for a year

Rs. 25,000: Provide skill-development and vocational training for one youth

Rs. 50,000 or more: Partner with REAP in setting up STEM labs and expanding community education initiatives
