About Me
Hello, my name is Prince Kumar. I am 17 years old and a proud blood cancer survivor.
I know cancer is a dangerous disease—but I also know it can be defeated. I am living proof of that, and I hope my story inspires others never to lose hope.
My journey began in 2019, when I suddenly started feeling weak. I had fever, body pain, and my health was worsening. At first, I went to a doctor in Hajipur, but my condition did not improve. Later, on the advice of some well-wishers, my father took me to AIIMS Patna. There, after a bone marrow test, I was diagnosed with blood cancer. I was admitted to Priya Ward and later shifted to the hematology ward, where my treatment began.
During this difficult time, my father met the Cankids team. They supported us in every possible way. But then COVID-19 struck, and AIIMS was converted into a COVID hospital. My treatment was then shifted to Apollo Hospital, Delhi, with the help of Cankids and Chanchal Ma’am. In Delhi, they took care of everything—treatment, food, and accommodation—completely free.
Even today, Cankids supports me with scholarship and ration. Thanks to them, I am now healthy and studying in Class 12.
I want to say to everyone: cancer is tough, but it is not stronger than your courage, hope, and determination. Never give up—because life after cancer is possible, and it is beautiful.
Appeal
Did you know that if a child has cancer in a high income country, their chances of survival are 80%. But in India, it is 35%. But it doesn't have to be that way. Founded in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, herself a cancer survivor, CanKids KidsCan - The National Society For Change For Childhood Cancer In India aims to change that.
CanKids partners with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to move India towards 100% access2care & higher survival rates for children with cancer. They enable best standards of treatment, care and support across 141 partner centers in 53 cities and 22 states of India. Catering to primarily underprivileged families, CanKids serves the underserved, ensuring avoidance of financial hardship.
CanKids increases survival rates by driving early detection, diagnosis & referral & partnering with the government and stakeholders to pioneer online support and care reaching remote corners of India.
Your donation goes towards medical treatment, blood work, nutrition, counselling, education of a child with cancer. Together we can bring light into dark and shine the way for more children with cancer to #surviveandthrive.
