I’m Mukesh Dev, an environmental professional with over 12 years of on-ground experience restoring India’s ecosystems—bringing water back to water-scarce villages, turning barren lands into forests, and rejuvenating wetlands, mangroves, and degraded landscapes.

Through all this work, one reality has stayed with me is that many of our small, gentle species, especially sparrows, are quietly disappearing.

Their fading presence isn’t just a nostalgic loss; it’s a sign of an environment under strain. This personal realisation is what inspired me to initiate a focused approach to help revive sparrow populations and strengthen local biodiversity.

I believe that with collective effort, we can bring back the natural harmony we grew up with.

Growing up, I learned how a small act of kindness can change a life. The support I once received taught me that when people come together, real transformation happens.
That same feeling returns today as I watch a bird that once lived so closely with us quietly disappear—the humble sparrow.
There was a time when sparrows chirped in our kuccha makaan, hopped around our balconies, and woke us with their soft morning songs. Those sounds shaped my childhood. Now, that melody is missing, and their silence is a warning that our environment is hurting.
Sparrows are sensitive indicators of ecological health. When they decline, it signals pollution, loss of insects, shrinking greenery, and a damaged balance in nature. Their disappearance made me ask myself: What kind of environment are we leaving for the next generation?
If a gentle bird that lived beside us for centuries can vanish so quickly, what does that say about the world our children will inherit?
This question moved me deeply and inspired me to take action.
