About Me
According to me “Cancer is not only a disease but also a fear. I have conquered that disease and fear, and now I want to eliminate that fear from people’s mind too”.
Family background and problem faced by the family.
I was 7 years old when my family found out that I had blood cancer. I belonged to a middle class family where my father was the only earning person where his monthly income was 6000Rs. My mother was housewife.
One day, all of sudden I fell down and got injured, my family immediately took me to the local doctor where he prescribed me wrong medication of TB and referred me to LG hospital for further treatment.
LG hospital’s doctor did blood report which showed that I had blood cancer. They advised my family to go GCRI hospital immediately for my cancer treatment. The day we entered in GCRI hospital was a National holiday, people were celebrating Muharram where my family was running to save my life. After several request, and doctor references, hospital registered my case and admitted me immediately. My father was bit scared but brave enough to say that you will give your best, do not get worried about the money required for my kid’s treatment.
My father started my treatment but somewhere he knew that our economy was not so good that's why we asked our elder father for financial help and my father and elder father got me treated together.
Cankids intervention:
When I used to come to the hospital for yearly follow up I met Ms. Bhumika Moradiya (Tutor in CANKIDS) in 2018, who connected me with Cankids KCK group and briefed me about its services. After becoming a member of KCK, I got complete different prospective for childhood cancer, that as a cancer survivor I can bring so much change in childhood cancer, I can bring hope, positive attitude towards treatment, freedom from superstition and many more things for those who are undergoing treatment. My own personality has changed a lot after joining KCK group, my confidence has build up, I see myself as a leader and educator to bring the change in childhood cancer.
Considering myself as change maker by being in KCK group, I took the admission in B.pharm to bring the positive change in cancer treatment.
After joining KCK, when I was constantly in contact with children with cancer, I saw that malnutrition is a real danger in the treatment of cancer and physical fitness and proper nutrition plays as major role. A fit body makes you heal fast and kept yourself away from diseases and makes you mentally strong. And that's why I work out every day and educate others too to look after their kid’s health and nutrition.
Current situation:
Cancer has traumatized us financially, mentally and physically but I never gave up. I think that Everyone has the right to live, my thinking made me win in cancer. Just like I have defeated a big disease like cancer in my childhood, in the same way I will remove the fear of childhood cancer from people's mind. I know my goal is big but I will do anything to achieve it.
Education is the key to achieve my goal and I think we can bring the change in society just by education. I am always serious with my study. I pursuing my Pharm degree, and got distinction last year. Since I am going to be a paramedical person, I look forward to do something great in the cancer treatment and medication so that the toxicity of drug could be reduced.
To spread the awareness in society, I want to go in car rally organized by cankids, so that a large population of rural area of Gujarat can be educated towards cancer. If people can be aware about the early symptoms of childhood cancer at the very beginning, then many children will be able to get the right treatment at the right time.
I still come to GCRI for follow up on regular basis and consulted under Dr. Nitin Shah.
But this story isn’t just mine.
This year, I’m running the Tata Mumbai Marathon Dream Run for the first time—alongside 30 incredible childhood cancer survivors. Each of us carries a story of courage, resilience, and hope. And we run not just for ourselves, but for every child still fighting.
Why We Run
We run to raise awareness.
We run to raise funds.
We run to remind the world that every child deserves a fighting chance.
These brave young fighters face unimaginable battles. But with your support, we can bring them healing, dignity, and joy. Your donation—no matter how small—can help provide treatment, emotional care, education, and a future.
Let’s spread the word, rally together, and say loud and clear:
Cancer Ko Dhishoom Dhishoom!
Appeal
Did you know that if a child has cancer in a high income country, their chances of survival are 80%. But in India, it is 35%. But it doesn't have to be that way. Founded in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, herself a cancer survivor, CanKids KidsCan - The National Society For Change For Childhood Cancer In India aims to change that.
CanKids partners with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to move India towards 100% access2care & higher survival rates for children with cancer. They enable best standards of treatment, care and support across 141 partner centers in 53 cities and 22 states of India. Catering to primarily underprivileged families, CanKids serves the underserved, ensuring avoidance of financial hardship.
CanKids increases survival rates by driving early detection, diagnosis & referral & partnering with the government and stakeholders to pioneer online support and care reaching remote corners of India.
Your donation goes towards medical treatment, blood work, nutrition, counselling, education of a child with cancer. Together we can bring light into dark and shine the way for more children with cancer to #surviveandthrive.
