About Me

I'm Dr. Neel Ashar, a dentist & Implantologist by profession and a triathlete at heart. For years, I’ve pushed my limits, completing nine Ironman 70.3 races worldwide, and proudly finishing the Frozen Pangong Lake Full Marathon, a Guinness World Record event.

On January 18th 2026, I'll be taking on my 6th full marathon and my 4th in Mumbai. This time, the finish line isn't just for me. I'm dedicating every mile to Ummeed Child Development Center, an incredible NGO that empowers children with developmental disabilities.

Ummeed gives these children the tools and support they need to reach their full potential. They help them overcome obstacles and build a brighter future, much like a marathon runner trains to conquer the course.

As a dentist, my profession is dedicated to helping people achieve healthier smiles. But I believe true health extends beyond the physical—it's about empowering people to live full and happy lives. That's why I'm proud to support Ummeed Child Development Center.

Ummeed Child Development Center is a not-for-profit organisation that empowers children
with, or at risk of, developmental disabilities to reach their full potential and be included in
society. 
Founded in 2001, Ummeed works with children and families with diverse conditions such as
autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, intellectual disability, learning disability, and more. 
Their key areas of work include:
• Clinical services (diagnosis and therapy) for children with developmental disabilities
and their families,
• Training, and capacity building (in individuals such as doctors, therapists, teachers,
community workers and organizations such as schools, community-based
organizations, etc.),
• Research (relevant to the field of child development and disabilities), and
• Awareness and advocacy (to change attitudes towards inclusion)
Their team includes professionals like developmental paediatricians, occupational and
physical therapists, speech therapists, counsellors, social workers, autism intervention
specialists, special educators, caregivers, and other experts.
Since inception, their direct overall reach is 15,500+ children through 1,52,000 therapy
sessions and about 0.56 million children and families indirectly across India.
However, there are nearly 52 million children with developmental disabilities in India and
hence Ummeed’s work remains critical. There is need for a larger number of skilled
resources in the country that children and families can access.
I am running in support of Ummeed and I would love to have your help to raise funds for
this cause. No donation is big or small and the amount raised will be used towards direct
clinical sessions for children with developmental disabilities and their families, and training
services to professionals and caregivers.
