About Me
My name is Shonila Jindal and I am a homemaker involved in growing and grooming my family, which consists of my husband, a finance professional and my daughter, a surgeon. I had started my career as a textile designer but moved on to be a homemaker.
Having now taken care of and nurtured my family, I am now directing my time and experience into nurturing young minds at the Udayan Care NGO, which is part of the Udayan Shalini Fellowship (USF) program of a well-established Indian NGO. At USF, I am a volunteer and mentor to young girls and counsel them toward a professional career and self-reliance.
USF supports girls from unprivileged backgrounds in their studies and overall grooming post-10th standard. Such girls are identified every year for support through a rigorous process of examination, interviews, and personal home visits. The shortlisted high-potential girls are then onboarded for a five-year development program. At each milestone, the performance of the girls is reviewed by the USF team.
We all at USF are grooming these talented girls to become socially responsible and professionally trained women. We call each of them ‘Shalini’, which in Sanskrit means an empowered woman. I am a member of this program’s Core Team.
Today, we are all at the USF program putting in all our efforts for the grooming of the ‘Shalini’s’, but we continuously require funds for our activities. Specifically, the funds are used for conducting extracurricular activities, ongoing support for basic education (for example, computer classes) and graduation costs. These funds play a significant role in the transformation process and in realizing the potential of these young, unprivileged girls. Hence, their criticality. Further, from a governance perspective, the complete process of fundraising and its relevant utilisation is duly audited by external professionals.
Appeal
My appeal to you is to donate to 'Shalini Empowerment Loan Fund' (SELF). We have 500+ underserved girls in Mumbai, whom we call ‘Shalini's’ (an empowered woman in Sanskrit). We groom them to become professionally, socially confident, and responsible women through a five-year skill-building journey with us.
I have put forth my plea to raise funds through TMM to support the graduation and post-graduation education of these girls through the interest-free loan fund (SELF - Shalini Empowerment Loan fund) created from your contributions.
- The need for support has arisen as nowadays, the specialized graduation courses are far more expensive than the regular graduation courses.
- The funds raised here will be used to provide interest free loans to support part of their graduation fees so that these unprivileged girls too, can graduate at par with all other students and have an equal opportunity to succeed in fulfilling their dreams.
- If educating a girl is a cause you believe in, please donate a small part of your income towards their educational need.
Namaskar to your grace with gratitude !! ?
