About Me

I am Dr. Sunil Bhat. I joined the CanKids Board this year.

I have been running marathons for many years.
This time, my run is dedicated to the cause I have been working tirelessly for the last so many years
for ensuring that children with cancer in India survive.

I am running alongside 15 childhood cancer survivor leaders of our Kidscan Konnect group. Each of them is living proof that survival is possible when children have timely access to diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care.

In India, children don’t die of cancer because it cannot be treated.
They die because of inequity and barriers to access to care — late diagnosis, financial hardship, distance from treatment centres, and lack of coordinated support.

We are running so that more children get that access — and so that many years from now, more survivors will not just survive cancer, but run marathons themselves.

Appeal

Did you know that if a child has cancer in the USA, their chances of survival are 80 to 90%. But in India, it is 35%. But it doesn't have to be that way. Founded in 2004 by Poonam Bagai, herself a cancer survivor, CanKidsKidsCan - The National Society For Change For Childhood Cancer In India aims to change that. Creating real and visible impact CanKids has driven access to care for kids with cancer from 29% to 53% by 2025, with a goal of 100% access, 100% financial protection, and 60% survival by 2030.

CanKids partners with hospitals, medical professionals, and state governments to move India towards 100% access2care & higher survival rates for children with cancer. They enable best standards of treatment, care and support across 141 partner centers in 53 cities and 22 states of India. Catering to primarily underprivileged families, CanKids serves the underserved, ensuring avoidance of financial hardship.
