Raah Foundation ("Raah") was started by professionals who wanted to use their education, experience, and background to address some of the most pressing problems facing India. Raah was started with annual donations from the founders’ families and from the company of one of the founders. Founders continue to be donors and are involved in its strategy and operations. Raah has found solutions to some of the multi layered, intertwined social problems that were unsolved for centuries and are implemented through an innovative, research and risk based thinking approach. The corporate & management background of the founders has helped us bring the best practices and a structured approach to our work. Project management, out of box thinking and a logical framework form the basis of all our work. Raah works on broadly three thematic areas – climate change adaptation (making the communities water secure and climate smart agriculture), climate change mitigation (creating carbon sinks through plantation and forests) and sustainable livelihood development (through skill training and women centric business opportunities). Projects are implemented with an integrated, outcome-focused, impact-driven, approach to development. Sustainability is built through capacity building of the communities to carry forward the transformation process enabling Raah to exit. Scalability is achieved through replication of the model and its best practices.
