SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting lives and livelihoods through community-led, resilience-based solutions. Since 1994, SEEDS has empowered vulnerable communities across Asia to prepare for and recover from natural and climate-induced disasters. With operations in 23 Indian states and beyond, SEEDS has impacted over 11 million people through interventions in disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, resilient infrastructure, and nature-based solutions.
SEEDS MISSION: Equipping the most vulnerable with appropriate tools and technologies, sharing knowledge and skills and promoting linkages among
stakeholders to prevent loss of life and suffering.
For TMM 2026, SEEDS is raising funds to support urban heatwave resilience through the installation of cool roofs which is a simple, effective solution that can reduce indoor temperatures by up to 6-8°C, protecting families most at risk during extreme heat events. These roofs not only offer immediate relief but also protect vulnerable families, especially children and the elderly, during extreme heat events. This effort is part of our larger vision to build climate-resilient communities equipped to face rising temperatures and unpredictable weather.
Appeal
Support SEEDS’ “Under the Umbrella” Campaign to Protect Vulnerable Communities from Deadly Heatwaves
India’s heatwaves are becoming more frequent and severe, threatening the health and survival of millions living in underserved urban pockets. Indoor temperatures in tin-roofed homes can trap heat, making living spaces unbearably hot, but our climate-resilient cool roofs can reduce indoor temperatures by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief. This summer, SEEDS is focused on six heat-vulnerable cities: Delhi, Bhopal, Chennai, Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bhubaneswar, where poor access to water, shade, and cooling makes life especially dangerous.
Funds raised will be directed toward two critical interventions:
1. Heatwave Survival Kits: We will distribute 1,000 kits containing essentials like umbrellas, insulated water bottles, cotton towels, protective hats, and oral rehydration salts. These kits provide immediate relief to daily wage workers, women shopkeepers, and families at risk of dehydration and heat stress.
2. Climate-Resilient Cool Roofs: We will insulate 100 homes using locally sourced materials such as bamboo, jute, and green vegetation to reduce indoor temperatures by several degrees. These “cool roofs” create a lasting refuge from extreme heat, improving comfort and safety for entire families while promoting sustainable, nature-based solutions.
Your support will help us reach over 5,000 people this summer, protecting lives and building community resilience. Together, we can ensure that no one faces the heat alone.
