Planning Rural-Urban Integrated Development through Education (PRIDE) India, was founded by the late Ms. Vipula Kadri in response to the socio-economic challenges arising from the Mill Workers Strike in Bombay City in the early 1980s. It has ever since evolved into a multifaceted organization dedicated to community development.
Starting with the establishment of Maharashtra's first successful Women's Credit Society, the organization expanded its reach to address diverse issues including Early Childhood Care and Development interventions, a residential home for tribal Katkari children (Jeevanshala), and the SPARSH health venture in Sastur after the Latur Earthquake. The organization played a crucial role in the "Rajiv Gandhi Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Scheme," earning recognition for its efforts.
In the wake of Ms. Vipula Kadri's passing in 2007, the Kadri family continued the legacy, with Ms. Isha Kadri (now Isha Mehra) guiding the organization. The holistic village development project, "Shashwat Gram," encompassed health, sanitation, livelihood, education, and community participation. In 2020, PRIDE India responded to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic by collaborating with the Navi-Mumbai Municipal Corporation. They established state-of-the-art infrastructure for Mother and Child Health, recognizing the need for a multi-disciplinary approach.
Additionally, the organisation addressed the rising number of kidney patients in the city by establishing a 10-bedded Dialysis Centre in Navi-Mumbai in partnership with the Navi-Mumbai Municipal Corporation. PRIDE India also initiated a life skill-based education program in Navi-Mumbai schools, emphasising both learning outcomes and the creation of valued citizenry. Through these initiatives, PRIDE India continues to play a vital role in supporting marginalised communities and fostering comprehensive community development.
Appeal
CHANGE LIVES, SAVE LIVES WHEN YOU RUN FOR PRIDE
PRIDE India, over the last 43 years, has been working on multiple thematic areas bringing about sustainable changes to uplift lives of the underprivileged communities. Since the last 9 to 10 years, the organization has successfully participated and has raised funds through the Mumbai Marathon. This has helped to amplify the efforts in saving and transforming lives.
Through this Marathon, we are appealing to you to join us in a transformative endeavour for Quality Health Care and promoting sustainable practices, conserving natural resources, and building climate-resilient rural communities..
PRIDE has been instrumental and contributed in improving health outcomes by reducing the mother mortality rate (MMR) from 35 to 1 and reduction in infant mortality rate (IMR) from 9.36 to 0.1 through our SPARSH hospital and community outreach initiatives in more than about 450 intervention villages where there is limited access to healthcare services.
As we run together, our every stride, helps bridge the gap. The funds we raise will be transparently managed for maximum impact.
Join us, not just in the race, but in reshaping India's future. Let's make every step matter, as PRIDE India transforms the marathon into a journey of compassion, hope, and change.
