Project Description | The Annamrita Midday Meal Project, run by the ISKCON Food Relief Foundation, is a large-scale initiative launched in 2004 with the aim of eradicating hunger and promoting education among underprivileged children in India. Inspired by the vision that no child should go hungry, the program provides nutritious, hygienically prepared mid-day meals to over 1.2 million children every day across 6,500+ schools in 21 cities and 8 states. Partnering with the Indian government under the PM-POSHAN scheme, Annamrita ensures meals meet required calorie and protein standards to fight malnutrition and boost school attendance. Meals are prepared in state-of-the-art, ISO-certified kitchens using advanced equipment and strict hygiene protocols. With over 2 billion meals served to date, the program has not only improved nutrition and educational outcomes but also fostered inclusivity by serving all children regardless of caste, religion, or background. |

Beneficiary Description | The Annamrita Midday Meal Project, run by ISKCON Food Relief Foundation, provides nutritious, hygienic meals daily to over 1.2 million school children aged 6 to 14 years across 7 states in India, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh. Beneficiaries are students from government and government-aided schools, primarily from underprivileged and low-income communities. The project covers both primary (ages 6–10) and upper primary (ages 11–14) levels, with an approximate gender breakup of 52% boys and 48% girls. For many of these children, the midday meal is a vital source of daily nutrition, helping improve school attendance, concentration, and overall health while also promoting gender parity in education. |
Impact | The Annamrita Midday Meal Project has had a significant impact by improving school attendance, reducing dropout rates, and enhancing the health and concentration levels of underprivileged children across India. By providing over 1.2 million nutritious meals daily in government and government-aided schools, it has helped combat malnutrition, support child development, and ease the financial burden on low-income families. The initiative also promotes social equality by serving all children without discrimination, fostering inclusivity and unity. Overall, Annamrita has played a vital role in breaking the cycle of hunger and illiteracy, with over 2 billion meals served to date. |
