Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation (LHWRF) is the social responsibility arm of Lupin Limited, founded by Dr. Desh Bandhu Gupta in 1988. In its journey spanning over three decades, the foundation has impacted more than 2.02 million beneficiaries across 5400 villages in 26 districts, spread across eight states in India.

Throughout its journey, the foundation has primarily focused on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and fostering economic growth in some of the most underdeveloped districts in India. It adopts a family-centered approach and initiates measures to help break the cycle of poverty, thus making a positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of the beneficiaries.

The Livelihoods Program has been a critical and instrumental element of our development efforts for the last decade. With a drive to create a profound impact, the livelihoods program focuses on establishing sustainable solutions for the disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. Capacity building, natural resource management, livestock development, strengthening grassroots value chains, and improving farmers' market access are vital components of our Livelihoods strategy.
The Lives Program focuses on enriching the quality of life within communities and ensuring better access to healthcare services. A strategic engagement aimed at strengthening health systems to address Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) stands as an irreplaceable building block of our Lives strategy.

Appeal

Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation (LHWRF) works to build healthier and more sustainable communities. As part of our livelihood programmes, we are carrying out Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives in rural schools and communities. These efforts aim to improve health, education, and dignity—areas often affected by poor sanitation and hygiene.

We focus not just on building facilities but also on ensuring they remain useful in the long run. Through awareness sessions and maintenance training, we help communities adopt good hygiene habits and take care of the infrastructure. This approach combines infrastructure development with behaviour change, leading to lasting improvements in children’s health and women’s well-being.

Through the Tata Mumbai Marathon, we are raising support to reach more schools that lack basic WASH facilities. The funds will help us build toilets, handwashing stations, and safe water systems in schools and households. Your support can help reduce waterborne diseases, improve children’s health and attendance, and ensure girls can go to school safely and with dignity. Together, we can make sure every child has access to a clean and healthy learning environment.

Project NameAgricule-Based Livelihood Empowerement
Amount Utilized (INR)3710000
Project DescriptionThe Agriculture-Based Livelihood Empowerment (ABLE) project, initiated by the Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation, works to raise the average annual income of 20,000 farmers by at least 25% over three years. Implemented in Dhule district of Maharashtra and Alwar district of Rajasthan, the project focuses on climate-resilient farming practices, strengthening value chains, and establishing Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to support small and marginal farmers.
Key interventions include improving crop yields and soil health, promoting efficient water use, enhancing livestock health, enabling collectivization, building market linkages, and introducing customized technology solutions. Partnerships with government and ecosystem players further strengthen its impact.
The funds raised through the Tata Mumbai Marathon were effectively utilized to expand the program’s outreach to additional farmers in Maharashtra and Rajasthan. This expansion has taken ABLE a step closer to its vision of positively impacting 50,000 individuals through sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Project DescriptionAgriculture remains the primary occupation in rural India, and addressing the stagnation in this sector is essential for overall economic growth and sustainability. Farmers face numerous challenges, including low productivity, insufficient working capital, outdated farming technologies, and a lack of access to supportive institutions. To address these concerns, our approach focuses on enhancing productivity through the transfer of modern agricultural technologies, promoting crop diversification, and building robust farmer organizations that can support collective growth.

Additionally, LHWRF recognizes the importance of livestock, particularly for landless farmers, as a key source of income. To support this sector, we focus on productivity enhancement through breed improvement, capacity building, and the introduction of modern technology. We also promote livestock diversification and value chain development, which ensures a steady, year-round income for farmers while also serving as an effective risk management strategy against crop failures.

Funds generated from the TMM (Tata Mumbai Marathon) were allocated to various livelihood initiatives. These include interventions in agriculture, livestock, and other allied activities, alongside essential water conservation efforts. By integrating these approaches, we aim to increase rural incomes, improve food security, and contribute to sustainable rural development.
