Dignity Foundation is a nonprofit organization in India dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens through a wide range of services aimed at promoting dignity, security, and active ageing. Founded in 1995, it operates across major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune. Its key programmes include Chai-Masti social centres, dementia day-care facilities, ration kit distribution (Anand Daan), 24/7 elder helpline, mobile physiotherapy clinics, residential care, and technology-enabled engagement for combating loneliness and digital exclusion. Through these initiatives, Dignity Foundation provides emotional, physical, and social support to thousands of elderly individuals, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.

Appeal

According to our Founder President Dr. Sheilu Sreenivasan, "While no one can change the outcome of Dementia, with the right support, you can change the journey. People with Dementia may not have a medical cure yet but they can surely be healed emotionally with unconditional love and care".

Dignity Foundation is focusing its energies on Dementia among senior citizens as its burden is quickly rising in India - likely to be 3X and affecting 14 million people, most of whom will be elders. Dignity Foundation has already set up 5 dementia day care centres in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi and Kolkata. At these centres, members are engaged in therapy as well as pampered with love, affection, care and compassion.

In Mumbai, while we have one dementia day care centre in Mahim, it is insufficient for the needs of dementia members across the city. For a vast city like Mumbai, we need at least 4 such centres - in eastern Mumbai, western suburbs, vasai-virar and navi Mumbai. We have received maximum number of requests for our services from the western suburbs, but we are unable to service them due to the lack of such a facility there.

Through this campaign's funds, we wish to set up a dementia day care centre in Mumbai's western suburbs region, which will service members from Andheri to Borivali-Dahisar. Setting up a new centre requires funds for renting an adequate space and equipping it as per the needs of Dementia members. Also, hiring trained staff at these centres require funds. Hence, your generous contributions will be invaluable to create a lasting impact.

Not only will your funds be used to impact lives this year, but they will be helpful to create impact year after year, as more senior citizens living with Dementia will enroll at this centre and benefit from it. We urge you to kindly come forward and help us in our mission to make Mumbai Dementia-ready!
