Nomi Network India is the overarching brand under which Know Me India Trust (KMIT) operates. KMIT is a registered public charitable trust under the Indian Trust Act of 1882 and serves as the operational foundation of Nomi Network in India, implementing its programs and partnerships on the ground.

Established in 2012 with support from a U.S. State Department grant, KMIT advances the economic empowerment of women and girls by creating pathways to financial independence, leadership, and dignity for women from underserved communities. It works in close collaboration with Nomi Network India Pvt. Ltd. to deliver these initiatives.

Headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, KMIT’s programs span Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, reaching communities most vulnerable to poverty, trafficking, and bonded labor. Through its Workforce Development Program, KMIT provides life skills, vocational and entrepreneurship training, and job placement support—enabling women to make informed choices, access dignified employment, and achieve sustainable livelihoods. Its Adolescent Girls Empowerment Program builds awareness of rights, health, and financial literacy among girls aged 16–18, preparing them for education or vocational careers.

KMIT also leads collaborative initiatives such as the Swabhimaan Project with Shahi Exports, which equips women with employability and life skills before connecting them to safe factory jobs. Guided by Nomi Network’s holistic empowerment model, KMIT transforms vulnerability into resilience—empowering women and girls to thrive as agents of change across generations.

Appeal

For the past 15 years, Nomi Network has been working with women and girls across eastern India, providing them the tools to realise their own potential, by equipping them with the confidence, skills, and networks to break cycles of poverty and exploitation.

We have reached over 15,000 girls and women through our programs. Working with girls aged 13-17, Nomi Network India focuses on providing them the tools to make informed decisions, understand their rights, build more agency, and eventually become leaders and change agents in their community. Our women's program targets adult women from vulnerable communities to equip them with employable skills and mentorship to support their journey to financial independence.

Within our program, we have seen a remarkable retention rate of 87% among women after they have been employed. Every small shift is critical to us – as women continue to lift their families and communities by educating them, constructing their homes, and saving money to secure their future.

“I am doing everything by myself — renting a house, travelling to work, and living in a new city. It is scary, but it is important for me,” shares Banani, a program graduate who now supports her daughter’s education and dreams.
