RF(I)T works with the urban poor in Mumbai since 2003. Our work in Mumbai’s ‘bastis’ is through seven Community Centres and Community Centric Interventions in slums located between Andheri and Kandivali. The Centres are physical spaces in the midst of congested slums, which women and children can easily access to focus on their health and capacity building needs. We engage them in processes leading to their empowerment. We have engaged with 1,373,152 beneficiaries upto March 2025 with an outreach to 5,351,286 people.
Our skill and capacity building initiatives are a range of Computer and Vocational Trainings including Entrepreneurship Development for women. Our Health interventions promote health seeking behavior in the community, particularly amongst women. We have Health Campaigns on Tuberculosis, Chronic Kidney Disease and Patients’ Rights
Our community based Mental Health intervention has helped de-stigmatize mental health issues in our communities.
Our Ummeed Health Programme focuses mainly on issues of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Our Utkarsh Youth Development Programme mentors Youth with giving back to Society through volunteering as a core value.
Through a service delivery to rights based approach, we have demonstrated models can be replicated in any geography and also be adopted by the Government.

Your support can help a woman help herself!
A contribution of Rs. 5,000 will help us in skill building, entrepreneurship development and mentoring of a socio- economically vulnerable woman from Mumbai’s slums.
Women entrepreneurs own 20% of India’s 63 million MSMEs. Yet they face challenges in terms of finance, skill development and social support. These difficulties are compounded for nano women entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds – be it single women, victims of domestic abuse or families with terminally ill patients….
Through our Community Centres in the midst of Mumbai’s slums, we at Rangoonwala Foundation (India) Trust, focus on capacity building of women through skilling and mentoring them for entrepreneurship. We focus on skills that are not capital intensive and do not occupy space in congested slum homes. Eg. Beautician, Mehendi application, jewellery making, cakes, cookies & chocolate making etc. Sourcing, costing, pricing, packaging and marketing inputs are an integral part of our trainings. This entrepreneurship development mentoring combined with linkages for orders, starts our nano entrepreneur’s journey for income generation.
