Appeal

Run for Goonj—so no one has to walk miles for water.

When you run for Goonj, your every step is a recognition of the deep interdependence between people in cities and villages. You are sharing into a circular economy where rural India’s strength and your urban surplus flow together, to build resilience, dignity, and hope for everyone.

The fields that grow our food, the hands that weave our clothes, the water bodies that sustain us all. When rural communities thrive, urban life flourishes too.
Through this run, carefully curated material Kits including clothing, learning materials, and other essentials will reach 5,000 drought-affected families.. Not as handouts, but as dignity earned by these families who restore wells, clean ponds, and revive water sources that keep India moving. It will also sustain the women who transform your material into these Kits.

Total funds raised in 2023 - INR 899198
Project NameRural Community and Household Development
Amount Utilized (INR)899198
Project DescriptionCommunity Mobilization – A time-tested strength of Goonj, a tool through which decision-making is put into the hands of the communities. Each year thousands of community development projects are being taken up and communities are encouraged to work on their local issues on water, community hygiene, sanitation, access, local infra, water, plantations, kitchen gardens, etc. As sustainable solutions for livelihood, communities are engaged in development activities in the non-farm activity days and receive daily utility materials such as clothing, toys, footwear and other household essentials in the form of Family Kits as a reward for their labour.

Cloth for Work: With its time-tested model of involving communities to address their issues, Goonj initiated its Cloth for Work initiative in the Ranchi, Dhanbad & Bokaro districts of Jharkhand. Here, people work on improving their local ecosystem and in turn receive the family kits with dignity, instead of receiving help in the form of charitable activity. The issues of the communities have mostly revolved around environment, water, sanitation, etc.
