Hamari Silai Foundation, established under The Maharashtra Public Trust Act in 2020, is a non profit organization committed to empowering women from low income communities by equipping them with employability skills and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Our flagship initiative, the Meri Apni Pehchan (MAP) Project, focuses on tailoring and garment making training for underprivileged women in Cuffe Parade, Colaba, and surrounding communities such as Ambedkar Nagar, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Colaba Market, Ganesh Murti Nagar, and Dhobi Ghat. Despite Mumbai being an economic hub, many women here are restricted to low paying menial jobs due to limited education and opportunities. Hamari Silai bridges this gap by offering skill development, financial literacy, and confidence building workshops, enabling women to secure stable incomes and lead dignified lives.
To date, over 1,000 women have successfully completed our tailoring programs, with many finding employment, launching home-based businesses, or fulfilling garment orders through our centers. During the pandemic, our women stitched masks and sanitary napkins, ensuring both community support and household income.
Recognized internationally, including media coverage in the Transcontinental Times (Australia) and a showcase at an Australian fashion show, Hamari Silai continues to nurture women into entrepreneurs, promoting self-reliance, confidence, and dignity.
Vision: A society where women are economically empowered and equal partners.
Mission: To accelerate social equity through education, women’s empowerment, and upskilling.
Appeal
Hamari Silai Foundation is on a mission to empower women from low income communities in Mumbai by providing them with free training, employment opportunities, and the confidence to lead independent lives. While every woman receives free tailoring and skill training, our larger goal is to build a strong and scalable foundation that will continue creating impact for years to come.
Through the Mumbai Marathon, we aim to raise ?1 crore. These funds will be invested in:
Skill Development Training: Professional tailoring and garment making courses for women with no prior experience.
Educational Support: Sessions on basic literacy, financial literacy, and digital awareness to improve employability.
Livelihood Opportunities: Setting up production units, providing sewing machines and raw materials, and connecting women with garment orders and buyers.
Holistic Growth: Confidence building workshops, exposure visits, and mentorship programs to prepare women as future entrepreneurs.
Digital Curriculum & Presence: Developing structured training modules and building an online presence to scale impact.
Strong Team Building: Hiring and training professionals to ensure quality delivery and sustainability.
Your support will not only empower women today but also help establish a lasting institution of change, uplifting families and communities across Mumbai.
