The Tata Mumbai Marathon, since its inception in 2004, has heralded a change that redefined the sporting landscape in India. This movement has unleashed the power of participative sport and has personified the pulse of Mumbai – a pulse that brings us together, no matter what the circumstances.
The Tata Mumbai Marathon is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 18th January 2026 and will be flagged off from the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
With the support of the people of Mumbai, government bodies, and other stakeholders, it has grown into a city-wide celebration and symbol of resilience.
The Tata Mumbai Marathon has become a foundational event for both the city of Mumbai and the Indian sporting calendar as part of the broader movement of participative sport across the globe.
This World Athletics Gold Label Race provided Indian athletes an opportunity to compete with the best in the world and win laurels for India. Besides sport, the platform has been a silver lining for the social sector. Additionally, it has led to the development of a thriving ecosystem around the sport, contributing to the socio-economic health and environmental sustainability of Maharashtra.
The Tata Mumbai Marathon has paved the way for a holistic approach to sports in India. From year one, it has instilled the importance of an active lifestyle and led to the popularity of the sport. Today, running is the fastest-growing participative sport in the country, with 700 running events and 700+ run clubs. Over the years, the event has empowered women's participation, with 30% of the total participants being women. Moreover, its inherent inclusive nature provided a centre stage for senior citizens and persons with disabilities to join the sport.
Over the years, the Tata Mumbai Marathon has assumed a stature of eminence as the largest philanthropic sporting platform in Asia. Each year, more than 300 NGOs participate in the event to raise funds for the work they do. Corporates and individuals use the platform as a way to give back to the underserved. Philanthropy through the platform is well-regulated and hence serves as an assurance to prospective donors.
Since its inception, the event has raised more than 483.22 crore, benefiting over 780+ charities, with funds being used for causes ranging from arts, culture and sports to education, environment, health, human rights and others, making the platform truly cause agnostic. The 2025 edition saw 53.62 crore being raised.
Procam International is an event management company and is committed to elevating and enlivening the professional face of sports and players. They have pioneered several sporting events in India, and one of them is the Tata Mumbai Marathon; they are the ones who organise this event end to end.
United Way Mumbai (UWM) has been the official Philanthropy Partner of TMM since 2009. As the official Philanthropy Partner, UWM enables participating NGOs to leverage the fundraising potential of the TMM and raise funds for their causes. UWM is responsible for conducting the due diligence of participating NGOs, accounting for all philanthropic funds and providing donation receipts with tax exemption benefits to donors for all amounts donated through its platform.
UWM maintains a digital platform that enables the participating NGOs to leverage the event through different mediums like Corporate Team participation, Fundraiser Bibs for individuals, online crowdfunding, etc.
To ensure that the platform is an equal and level playing field for all participating NGOs and remains neutral, UWM maintains a high standard of transparency. Since there are limited running spots at the TMM, the fundraising opportunities against these spots are distributed equitably between the NGOs.
Potential donors are guided to make decisions by interacting directly with participating NGOs. 100% of the funds donated on the fundraiser and NGO pages on the UWM website are disbursed fully to the NGO, as UWM absorbs the payment gateway charges. This makes it one of the most cost-effective fundraising platforms for NGOs.
United Way Mumbai aims to partner with as many NGOs as possible from various cause categories to provide a diverse list. All the registered NGOs are listed here: https://www.unitedwaymumbai.org/tmm-participating-charities.
You can search for a specific NGO either by name or through the cause category in the drop-down menu. The list is updated as soon as the verification process is complete at our end.
You can request the NGO of your choice to fill the preliminary registration form on https://www.unitedwaymumbai.org/signup-ngo to register with UWM for the Tata Mumbai Marathon. If the NGO fulfils the conditions for statutory and financial due diligence of UWM, they may complete their registration for the TMM. Post which you may select the NGO to support.
Below mentioned are the key features of the TMM philanthropic platform:
To participate in the TMM, all NGOs must register with UWM and complete the due diligence procedures. The registrations and due diligence incurs no cost to the NGO. By registering with UWM, NGOs also gain access to different funding opportunities possible at UWM. UWM works with over 150 companies on their CSR & employee giving.
Registration process is explained in detail in the Philanthropy Structure (link to be shared soon).
No, NGOs not registered in India cannot participate in the event.
United Way Mumbai features all the registered NGOs for the event on its website non preferentially. TMM is a time when hundreds of individuals, corporates and donors visit the UWM website daily, as they look for causes and NGOs to support. Being featured on the website is the best way to reach out to these prospective donors, and raise the maximum possible funds through this platform.
The Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) offers diverse avenues for fundraising to benefit NGOs. While it is highle regarded as the epitome of distance running among dedicated runners in India, the event also brings out the festive and inclusive spirit of the city of Mumbai with additions like the Dream Run, Senior Citizens’ Run, and the Champions with Disability race categories. The TMM is a hugely popular event with more applications than the event can accommodate. In addition, a considerable percentage of running slots are reserved for charity. The Philanthropy Structure is built to help maximise opportunities for NGOs to leverage the event to raise funds for their causes. The ways in which an NGO can raise funds are as follows:
1. Individual Fundraising
2. Corporate Participation
To reward participating NGOs that make full use of the TMM platform, there are 5 indicators that translate into points for an NGO. These points determine the NGO's privilege level at TMM. The privilege level is not a rating of the NGO's work but reflects their level of participation.
NGO Privilege Levels are explained in detail in the Philanthropy Structure (link to be shared soon).
The Corporate Team category is designed for companies to form employee teams for the Tata Mumbai Marathon and raise funds for their chosen NGOs. This initiative fosters employee engagement, team bonding and contributes to various causes.
In Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025, 11050 employees from 165 companies participated and contributed INR 24.6 crore for their NGOs.
On race day, corporate employees enjoy a special tent for an enhanced experience.
This is an unique benefit for corporate participants. On race day the event promoters set up a dedicated tent in the holding area exclusively for Corporate Teams participating through philanthropy. The tent offers various enjoyable activities such as games, zumba, foot massages, art and craft, photo booths, team challenges, and refreshments.
All the details regarding corporate team participation, from corporate team registration, corporate team submission, donation amounts, employee fundraising, benefits of participation, applicable race fees, and timing cut-offs for race categories are given in the Philanthropy Structure.

No, all donations made directly to UWM are considered a donation for which an 80G tax exemption receipt and 10BE certificate is provided. Unless, the corporate is supporting UWM through team participation and opts for the split cheque option then an 80G is issued for the applicable retention amount, and the remaining donation is considered as a part of CSR.
Companies wishing to contribute from their CSR budget and in order to be in accordance with the CSR law, which mandates contributions be made directly to projects eligible as per the company's CSR policy, can opt for the split cheque option.
In this option, the total contribution is split between the NGO (for the project) and UWM as per the table below.
Companies who do not need to contribute from their CSR budget can make a single donation to UWM and UWM will disburse the contribution to the selected NGO as per the following table.
If the corporate is not registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 and is a 100% subsidiary of a foreign company, then it falls under FCRA, and hence the beneficiary NGO must have FCRA registration to receive the donation from the corporate. The corporate would also be required to provide an authorised declaration on company letterhead confirming the same for UWM to proceed with the registration process. As per the recent FCRA regulations, NGOs cannot disburse FCRA funds to another NGO. Therefore, the FCRA donations must be made through a split donation option only.

Along with creating a meaningful impact, employees also become eligible for incentives as they progress through the fundraising campaign.

Yes, a company can raise funds without requiring its employees to create individual fundraising pages on the United Way Mumbai (UWM) website by collecting donations on behalf of its employees and contributing a lump sum to the corporate-supported NGO. The company would need to compile a list of donor details, including PAN numbers, and submit it along with the funds to UWM. Donations can be made through cheque, DD, or direct bank transfers, with the details shared with UWM for verification. This approach allows the company to manage fundraising collectively, bypassing the need for individual employee fundraising pages.
No. It is not necessary for all the employees who participate to raise funds. However, participants are encouraged to make their run more than a finish line/ just a race by supporting a cause and an NGO, and raising funds. As gratification, as and when the employee fundraiser crosses each level, they gain the benefits and privileges of the level.
An individual fundraiser in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 can raise funds in three main ways:
Online Fundraising: By creating a fundraising page on the United Way Mumbai (UWM) website, they can share their appeal, set a fundraising target, and receive donations through a payment gateway. UWM disburses 100% of the funds raised online to the chosen NGO.
Offline Fundraising: By collecting donations via cheque or direct bank transfer to UWM's account. The fundraiser needs to enter donor details on their fundraising page, and UWM will update the amount once the funds are realised.
Direct Donations to the NGO: Fundraisers who achieve the "Change Maker" level (raising INR 2 lakhs or more) can receive donations directly into the NGO's bank account. These donations are still counted towards their fundraising tally for the marathon, with a retention % by UWM on direct donations according to the Fundraiser Level.
To submit an offline donation, an individual fundraiser in the Tata Mumbai Marathon (2026) has to go through the following steps: Log in to the fundraising page on the UWM platform. Click on TMM Donations and click on ‘’Add Offline Donations’’ and enter the details of the Donation (eg, Cheque, DD, NEFT). After entering the Donation details, the fundraiser must then download & print the donation report from the dashboard, attach the Cheque/DD, and send it to the Campaigns Team at United Way Mumbai (Address: 1201, 12th Floor, Suvidha Square, Ceasar Rd, Andheri West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400058) Once the cheque or DD is realised in UWM’s bank account, the donation amount will be updated on the fundraiser’s page.
100% of funds raised online through the fundraising pages are disbursed to the supporting NGO(s). UWM absorbs the payment gateway charges to ensure all of it reaches the NGO.
However, for funds raised offline (through cheques / DDs / direct bank transfer to UWM's account), a donation retention is retained as per the fundraiser's level.
Note: For employee fundraisers of registered companies, only 2% is retained as opposed to a maximum of 4% in case of general individual fundraisers.
Corporate fundraisers participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 receive several benefits, including enhanced brand visibility through company logos on race bibs and in the Corporate Tent on race day, priority line-up for Dream Run participants, and access to a dedicated Corporate Tent with various amenities. They also enjoy relaxed timing criteria for Half Marathon entries and acknowledgement in the philanthropy docket. Additionally, companies with employee fundraisers who collectively raise significant amounts receive further recognition, such as invites to the Procam Marquee, Grand Stand, and the TMM Philanthropy Awards Nite according to the fundraising level accomplished.
Fundraising involves collecting donations for your supported NGO(s) by tapping into your network of friends, family and colleagues. This is also known as crowd fundraising. You can also post your appeal on various social media platforms to further raise awareness and funds for your chosen cause and NGO(s). Fundraising allows you to advocate for the cause that you feel passionate about and to make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged.
This is an activity where the fundraiser asks their friends, family and colleagues to support their fundraising campaign by donating to a cause close to their heart. Interested donors can visit the fundraisers’ page on UWM’s website and make donations through a secure payment gateway. United Way Mumbai will then transfer the amount the fundraiser has collected to the chosen NGO(s).
Online fundraising also makes it possible to reach out to and collect donations for a good cause from people outside of the fundraisers’ city/country.
Yes, you can. One individual fundraiser can choose up to 3 NGO(s) to support. UWM, however, recommends supporting only one NGO so that they can maximize the effectiveness of the projects they undertake.
The names of the donors, their email IDs and the amount they have contributed through your online fundraising page are accessible to you when you log into your fundraising page.
Yes, all donations of INR 100 and above are eligible for an 80G receipt. The receipt will be emailed upon completion of the transaction. This receipt can be used for income tax purposes. We will also be issuing a 10BE certificate to all donors post the event by the end of June 2026. The PAN number of the donor for the donation is mandatory to provide them with a 10BE tax exemption certificate.
Donors donating through cheque/DD/direct bank transfer to UWM’s account, the 80G will be issued within 15 working days’ time and will be emailed to the email ID provided during the time of donation.
There is no minimum amount that needs to be raised. However, we urge you to reach out to your networks and appeal for funds on behalf of the cause/NGO(s) you chose to support.
Yes, we have prepared a fundraising guidebook with the help of the knowledge shared by our veteran fundraisers. You can download the ’How to be a super successful fundraiser’ guidebook from your fundraiser dashboard on the UWM website.
We have also prepared an AV with feedback, tips and suggestions from our veteran fundraisers.
An individual fundraiser at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 can raise funds in three main ways:
These donations are still counted towards their fundraising tally for the marathon, with a 1% retention by UWM on direct donations.
UWM does not accept cash donations. However, if a donor insists on giving funds in cash, when submitting the amount to United Way Mumbai, we request you to issue a consolidated cheque of the entire amount, favouring ’United Way of Mumbai’, mentioning the donor details in the donation report so that UWM can issue the 80G receipts to the respective donors.
If they are Indian nationals, it would be best for them to donate through their Indian debit/credit card. Otherwise, they can use their foreign/international credit card to donate to your fundraising page. Besides, they can also send you cheque/s in favour of ‘United Way of Mumbai’ and you can further submit it to UWM with the donation report.
Keep in mind that foreign donors would not be able to donate due to the Indian government’s ban on sub-granting of foreign funds between NGOs under the amended FCRA laws.
No. Due to the restriction on the sub-granting of foreign funds under the FCRA laws, UWM will not be able to transfer funds to the intended NGO. Therefore, the online donation form would not permit foreign donors to donate. UWM can only accept foreign funds for its own projects.
With the right commitment, effort and fundraising plan, you will reach your target. However, there is no penalty for not reaching your fundraising target.
Once you create a Fundraising Page, you can easily track donations online on your dashboard when you log in. Every donation received on your page will also reflect in the fund meter against the fundraising target set by you. An alert email is also triggered each time you receive a donation.
The last day of fundraising is 5th February, 2026.
The money is accounted for at United Way Mumbai and then disbursed to the NGO(s) you have chosen to fundraise for.
100% of funds raised online through the fundraising pages are disbursed to the supporting NGO(s).
However, for funds raised offline (through cheques / DDs / direct bank transfer to UWM’s account), a donation retention of between 0 to 4% is applicable based on the fundraiser’s levels.
Note: For employee fundraisers of registered companies, 2% or less is retained as opposed to a maximum of 4% in the case of general individual fundraisers.
Upon being eligible for a bib at various fundraising levels, UWM will contact the fundraiser for the privilege. Once the fundraiser agrees to avail the benefit, UWM will share a voucher code and a registration link to complete the registration.
Fundraisers who are not eligible for a complimentary bib will have to pay the race fees to the event organisers.
This is one of the ways through which your NGO can raise funds. When a general runner is registering with Procam, there will be a pop-up option that asks the runner to donate and be a part of a great cause. The runner can select an NGO by searching for the name. If the runner doesn’t have any pre-decided NGO, they can still go to the UWM microsite, and choose from a pool of NGOs cause-wise and donate.
In another scenario, if the runner couldn’t decide on an NGO but still wants to donate, that person could proceed with their donation, and in that case, the amount will come to UWM’s common pool for participating NGOs.
