Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) is a menace to society. Just because it is not seen doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. According to statistics, 53.2% of children in India are sexually abused. 1 in 10 children experience it before they're 18. 35% are younger than 11 years old.
According to UNICEF:
-Research indicates that 52.94% of those abused are boys while 49.06% are girls.
-In 85% of cases the abuser is known to the child, often someone they trust.
-Because of the familiarity of the abuser to the victim, most victims don't tell anyone of their abuse.
Impact Of Sexual Abuse:
Such a traumatic experience in a child's life is often expressed in indirect ways which may change their behavioural patterns much later in life. It leaves victims scarred and takes a long time to recover from. Reactions of the victims include fear, disbelief, shock, long-term anxiety and PTSD. It MUST be stopped. We must do everything we can to help.
To this end, HEAL emerged as a project at The Foundation, with an aim to fight against Child Sexual Abuse in India. HEAL stands for Help Eradicate Abuse through Learning. Their mission is:
-To prevent sexual abuse of children through the tool of education.
-To make quality psychotherapeutic response available to every child and adult survivor of CSA in India.
-To actively lobby with governments to put child rights at the heart of policy making.
I appeal to you to be a part of this fight! Stand up with me and help me create awareness to prevent sexual abuse.
