I, Naina Yadav, work with Naz Foundation as the Data Officer. In 2012, I joined Naz’s sport for development program as a participant when I saw that the girls were playing freely in a very safe space. I also wanted to play like them. After joining the program, I played at Youth Netball leagues and zonal and inter-zonal level netball tournaments.
One day, I found out that the Naz Foundation had organized an event called the One Nation Netball Cup (ONNC), in which 7 teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra and Delhi would compete against each other. The best part was that the girls and boys were going to play together in ONNC! I attended the netball camp for the Delhi team selection and got selected for the first ONNC, in 2013. It was a really good experience, as it was the first time when I was playing in a mixed team and I was able to meet and play with people from different states. While I was making new friends, I was also interacting with new cultures and languages that I was unfamiliar with. I have been a part of the ONNC with different capacities from 2013 as a participant to now as the Data Officer where I monitor and measure the impact!
I can only look back on my time with the Naz foundation and the editions of ONNCs as a time when I gained confidence to follow my dreams, played netball, learned life skills and truly enjoyed the spirit of playing and happiness!
