Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024

93% of the students in a municipal primary school, in the age of 10 to 14, are not able to build a 3 word sentence in English. That is one of the devastating observation of my baseline test which I conducted in a local primary school for the project “English through games“. How did this project come to life? One month ago I visited a local municipal primary school, where the children from the nearby slum are studying. I attended an English class and saw why the students don’t acquire the basic knowledge of English in primary school. First of all there is only one English class a week. Secondly this lesson is based on direct instruction or lecturing which makes the class very boring for the students. Thirdly, the English teacher is not able to speak proper English. In order to give those disadvantaged primary school students the opportunity to learn the basic content of English, the CEO of slumsoccer and I created “English through games”. I am running the Mumbai Marathon to gather funds for Slumsoccer. These funds will give me the resources to develop the program to its fullest potential. To finish this text we need a catchy sentence like “together we can make it happen” but I would rather state “think of the money you donate as the 5€ you lent someone for a pint and never got back”.

About Me
Hello my name is Tim and I am currently volunteering for Slumsoccer. My friends and teammates know that I am crazy about ball sports and not really excited about running. My former trainer once said to me:“ you would rather spend two hours finding excuses for not running than go running for one hour“. So, why am I running now? Through the money I raise I am able to support slum children and that is definitely worth the pain during the run.
