We slum children and youth face interruption in schooling, less education facilities and have almost no access to books beyond school, no access to basic learning aids like India's map to understand Geography. There is no practical learning by doing type opportunity as available to more fortunate children of well-to-do families. In this scenario, most of us slum children resign ourselves to a below par educational outcome. With UHRC's stimulation and motivation we slum children, form children-youth groups with nearly equal number of girls, boys. This has fostered us girls to mature as equal youth in a society that favors boys.
Groups meet almost every month; undertake activities such as book reading, games, discussing solutions to challenges. We gain knowledge and receive stimulation by organization’s work i.e. awareness sessions on hygiene, sessions to demonstrate correct
hand washing method using soap and water, quiz competitions and games for youth and
children groups. UHRC has provided a mobile library of story books about inspirational
personalities and enjoyable reads are thereby available.
At UHRC convened hand washing session, we distribute leaflets to basti people and other
passers-by on the street. We urge people to wash their hands with soap and water at our
hand wash station. This activity encouraged us and helped understand how to mobilize
people for a good cause. UHRC bring a new dawn of the future of we children.
