3-4 years ago, I first came to know about UHRC’s work in my basti through Nanhe kadam and Chhu le Aasman children’s group. It was so encouraging to see activities that group that after some years children from my gali (lane) also began to form a group, which we named Smile Children’s group. We have done some efforts, and plan to continue do more work for social causes i.e. better approach road and drinking water with UHRC’s guidance, so that all our neighboring community benefits and also contributes in this cause.
UHRC engages in many efforts and activities to develop children groups. Gradually we children started small savings in the groups. I feel very happy to be associated with UHRC.
It is our endeavor that through UHRC’s children-youth group program we will gently push the society to get used to gender equality. We basti children groups become a cohesive force where we all (girls as well as boys) form a support system for each other. We ensure uninterrupted education, play sports and enjoy other self-development activities. Children-youth groups come together for joint activities such as sports meet, book reading, quiz, greeting-card making and jewelry making, which give platforms to showcase our skills, talents and overcome stage-fear.
Women's groups promoted by UHRC help slum families to continue their children’s education, to repay old high interest debts, to fulfill basic needs of their families.
