Slum children and youth of Jairaj Nagar and neighboring slums in Indore face many difficulties. There is no arrangement for playing. Before one and half year during Monsoon, we walked to school through waterlogged muddy road. With efforts of our basti’s women groups and UHRC’s constant guidance and support the street has been paved.
My school s very few facilities, activities and we have few choices. I enjoy being a member of children and youth group under UHRC’s program. I am able to read story books through mobile library. UHRC activities help us children and youth develop organizing and teak skills, improve knowledge, improve our confidence in performing in speaking before external audience, and see different parts of Indore city.
With guidance from UHRC children-youth groups have been formed each with a girl and a boy leader. UHRC organizes activities such as book reading and message writing, sports day, group-song and poetry recitation on themes such as "girls are equal contributors to society", dance, short essay writing on "how to make our slum clean". These enhance confidence, self-expression. By thinking ourselves about different aspects of organizing activities we acquire team-skills and develop leadership.
