Mumbai is a city with a population of 18.4 million, out of which 56% people live in slums, even though slums cover only 6% of the city’s land. Children living in these slums drop out of school and 9 out of 10 times are forced into child labour or substance abuse. The use of alcohol and tobacco often becomes the easiest path for them as they do not have the education that every child SHOULD have. The Salaam Bombay Foundation works towards developing skills that every child needs. They provide over 50,000 children with ‘tools’ that will help them break out of the poverty cycle.
