In India over 20% of girls drop out of school upon reaching puberty. Far larger percentages start missing school due to their periods and subsequently add to the drop outs. Thus ends their education and exposure to the outer world. This directly results in child and early marriage leading to early and repeated pregnancy. Their lack of empowerment makes them susceptible to domestic abuse, violence and virtually every social evil that afflicts women. Their Period becomes their FULL STOP. All because they did not have a dignified, dependable and affordable way to manage their period. FPA India wants to end this vicious circle. For 68 years, Family Planning Association of India has been a champion of marginalized and neglected women fighting for their education, empowerment and equality. This year, FPA India plans to fight this social evil and nip it at its starting point. This year we will make sure these underserved girls and women have access to sanitary napkins that are low on cost and high on quality. We want to see the day where not one girl has to miss a single day of school simply because she is becoming a woman and doesn't have a way to effectively manage the change.
