The Urban Health Resource Centre (UHRC) is an NGO working in the slums of Indore, Agra and Delhi on issues such as health, sanitation, education and women's rights for the past 10 years. Presently 135 womens groups (1730 trained volunteers) and 35 youth groups (400 active youth) work actively. The groups are regularly trained on health, nutrition, importance of children's education, cleanliness and hygiene, family's economic self-reliance and overall well-being with motivation and hand-holding support by UHRC's social facilitators. I have been associated with UHRC for the last three years and have witnessed first hand the excellent programmes that are carried out. The core of the programmes is to empower underprivileged communities to shape their futures and that of the people around them. Once women and children are associated with UHRC, they benefit immensely from the training and capacity building programmes. The children and youth groups programme of the UHRC has a unique characteristic, where each group has two leaders; one girl and one boy. This is to ensure a sense of gender equity among children at a young age. As some of the members of these groups have grown up to be adults now, we have seen that there is no sense of gender inequity among them. They have even started to check their parents and other adults if they notice an act of gender discrimination. Your contribution will help UHRC and its social facilitators continue the task of improving lives.

About Me
I have been associated with the UHRC as a researcher and have seen the positive impacts of the programmes in the slums of Agra and Indore. Having associated myself more closely with the children's programmes, I have noticed the incredible potential and energies of these kids. Under adverse circumstances, they are bursting with ideas, brimming with positivity, and moving forward with purpose and hope. They know no boundaries and fear no failure. Your support will not only help sustain UHRC's program, but also help strengthen the belief and resolve of these youngsters.
