COVID-19 has affected all of us. The obvious impacts already have the healthcare system of India buckling under the pressure of keeping up with the burgeoning numbers of cases, outbreaks of community transmission, and low supplies of essential medical gears. With the nationwide lockdown since 25th March 2020, the long term consequences of the pandemic are proving to be much more enduring than the pandemic itself. The worst-hit are the daily wage workers of India. The unorganised sector consists of 94% of India's labour force. With no jobs, no money in hand, no transport, and minimal relief, thousands of workers are emigrating to their villages by walking for days at an end. And with the lockdown bringing the economy to a near standstill, the hope of returning to their jobs once the lockdown ends looks bleak.
