Support My Campaign
Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024

Hello, I am Riya Adhikary, a APML Blood Cancer survivor.  I will be running the Tata Mumbai Marathon Dream Run  to raise funds to support children with cancer for CanKids KidsCan, The National Society For Change For Childhood Cancer In India. And need your help to achieve the same.

I was in class Six then my disease was first diagnosed.  First I got fever, chills, nosebleeds with cough, a tooth that falls out usually causes the gums to bleed for a few days, there were black spots on my body. We  went to many local Doctors but the medicines didn't work. My blood reports were taken  doctor who suspected blood disease but he didn't say anything clearly. He told my parents to take me to NRS Hospital Kolkata.

Dr.Prantar Chakrabarty Sir was saw me outdoor there and told my parents that I have blood cancer and I was admitted to NRS Hematology Department. I was very scared when I was admitted to the hospital then my treatment started from day one. My chemo started and in first chemo I had very bad chest pain, headache, vomiting, eye pain begins, then all the hair started falling for chemo. Physically the first two months were very difficult. I had about 30 liquid chemo running. along with that oral chemo was going on, there were many more problems after Chemotherapy, like mouth ulcer the finger nails turned black etc. The first 6 month were treated in hospital's ward and after that there was an outdoor check up for two more years, during these two years I was taking some medicines and oral chemo. I had bone marrow tests 8 times during my treatment.  My treatment was started from 2014 month of October and fully completed 2017 month of February.

I was introduced to CanKids I was admitted to the hospital. I got a lot of help being there, like medicine support, food support, parents mental support, I have been getting help for my studies since then( Educational support). and during treatment they made us joyful, I danced at many program there.

During treatment my only concern was that I have to recover from this situation. and I will also one day give courage to other children who face this disease later, that they too will be completely fine, because 'Childhood Cancer is Curable', if treated at the right time.

Now I am 20 years old, I dance and draw. Now I am studying in college, graduation, 3rd year, BA history honours. And also with this I am connected with the KCK (Survivor Group) of CanKids and participating in various awareness programs and encourage others. So I want to say I'm a winner so everyone can be.

I am proud to share that I am participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM)  in the dream run category with 19 other cancer survivors, like me and our goal extends beyond personal achievements. We are dedicated to raising funds to support children fighting cancer, and this year, I have set a target of a 31000 Rs.

I am reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues, urging them to contribute whatever they can to this cause. Every contribution, no matter how small, will play a crucial role in saving the lives of children battling cancer. Your support is not just a donation it's a step towards saving a child's life.

Join me in this journey, contribute to the cause, and let's collectively work towards a world where quality healthcare is accessible to  brave young souls fighting cancer. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those in need. Thank you for your support!
