I'm Shashi, a 15-year-old from Bihar. I am a childhood cancer survivor and will be running the Tata Mumbai Marathon Dream Run to raise funds to support children with cancer for CanKids KidsCan, The National Society For Change For Childhood Cancer In India. And need your help to achieve the same.
When I was 12, I started having a fever continuously for a week or even a month. We went to several doctors, but they couldn't figure out what was happening, and the diagnosis was a big challenge. After 9 months of struggle I was referred to TMH Hospital in Mumbai. I was finally diagnosed with NHL (Blood Cancer). It was really tough for both my mother and me; she's a single parent, and she was shattered. The treatment brought many difficulties, and my first chemo left me traumatized and aggressive. Thankfully, my mom consulted a psychologist who introduced us to CanKids and CanShala. It became like a second home for me.
Canshala provided emotional support, I made friends, and loneliness was no longer an issue. They also helped with my studies.They organize regular hygiene sessions, provides a good diet food, and awesome parties that I enjoyed a lot. After nine months, I was fully recovered. I returned home and joined my regular school. Now, at 15, I'm living a normal life. Last year, I got introduced to the KCK group, a bunch of childhood cancer survivors spreading awareness. I eagerly joined their campaign, CycleForGold, cycled over 1000kms, and raised funds, boosting my aim of creating awareness about childhood cancer. This was my cancer journey.
I am proud to share that I am participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) in the dream run category with 19 other cancer survivors, like me and our goal extends beyond personal achievements. We are dedicated to raising funds to support children fighting cancer, and this year, I have set a target of a 31000 Rs.
I am reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues, urging them to contribute whatever they can to this cause.
